Genesis HealthCare Acquires 7th
PowerBack Rehabilitation Location
MAR1

PowerBack Rehabilitation News, March 1, 2014

On March 1, 2014, Genesis HealthCare expanded into the Lakewood community with the acquisition of Azura of Lakewood (now called PowerBack Rehabilitation), a 108-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility located in Lakewood, CO.  Genesis originally developed the PowerBack Rehabilitation model of care in response to market demand for shorter post-hospital patient recovery periods and fewer post-discharge set-backs.  With the addition of the Lakewood facility, Genesis now operates seven PowerBack locations across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and now Colorado. PowerBack’s goal is to help patients get back home as quickly and safely as possible.

In describing the philosophy behind PowerBack Rehabilitation, Genesis HealthCare’s CEO George Hager said, “Research proves that most people who require rehabilitation therapy after surgery or illness are completely caught off guard with no plan in place. Without a plan, patients and families can become emotional and make rushed decisions. We believe in the importance of planning ahead and PowerBack should be the plan if the patient’s goal is a safe and speedy recovery.”

Designed for 100% short-term care and rehabilitation, most PowerBack Rehabilitation patients typically recover and return home within a few weeks. By calling the PowerBack CareLine, patients can pre-book their stay at PowerBack to allow for a smooth transition from hospital to rehabilitation. PowerBack also encourages people, particularly those 50 and older, to order their own personalized PowerBack Card.  “You never know when you will end up in the hospital and in need of rehabilitation,” notes Mr. Hager.  “It is best to have a plan.”

Executive Director of PowerBack Rehabilitation in Lakewood, Ken Kerver explained, “With the newest equipment available and aggressive therapy plans tailored for each individual patient, the entire PowerBack model is designed to help our short stay patients get their Power Back. And we pamper them while they’re here.”

The Lakewood facility is already very similar to PowerBack Rehabilitation, but items we may look to add over the next few months include:

  • Expanded capabilities to such as Cardiac and Pulmonary Specialized Care;
  • Patient Directed Rehabilitation - offered 7 am to 7 pm; 7 days a week, ensuring patients get their Power Back;
  • Enhanced care planning and daily routines, directed by you, focused on helping you get your Power Back;
  • A Guest Services Team to ensure you have what you need to make your stay as comfortable as possible;
  • Onsite Physicians and full-time Nurse Practitioners for added medical oversight;

Gourmet Fare At PowerBack Rehabilitation
APR24

An Iron Chef America winner and Monkton native, Holly Smith, provided a cooking demonstration for patients at PowerBack Rehabilitation, Brightwood Campus on Tuesday, April 24, 2012.  Chef Smith was in town to visit her father, a PowerBack Rehabilitation patient.  Assisted by her young son Oliver, Chef Smith prepared lump crab meat over green apple sorbet, a cold kale salad with fava beans and lemon zest, and an asparagus salad with chives, chive buds and lemon zest.  In line with the philosophy at PowerBack Rehabilitation, patients enjoy daily gourmet meals prepared by a professional chef and can take advantage of restaurant-style dining in the dining room, café or in their own room.  They can also partake from a 24-hour always available menu.

Chef Smith is the owner of Café Juanita in Kirkland, Washington and specializes in Northern Italian inspired cuisine.  She won the 2008 Best Chef Northwest award from The James Beard Awards.  In 2011, Chef Smith and Café Juanita were nominated for the James Beard Award for Outstanding Chef and Outstanding Restaurant.

PowerBack Rehabilitation, Brightwood Campus provides skilled nursing, medical and rehabilitative care for individuals recovering from a hospital stay or surgery.  From the latest equipment, to aggressive therapy plans tailored for each patient, everything is designed to get patients home as quickly as possible.
